Reminisce and Demise of 2010

2010, my second year out of school and my second year at university studying visual art. Growing in my knowledge and skill in creating ideas conveyed visually through painting and photography art. Looking back at this year I am pleased with my results. Here are the classes I attended and the result I earned from them:

SP1 Art in Public - High Distinction
SP2 Visual Art Professional Practice - Pass 1
SP2 Representing Visual Culture - Credit
SP2 Painting Media and Processes - Distinction
SP2 Computer Manipulated Photography (A) - High Distinction
SP5 Painting: Advanced Imagery V.A. - Credit
SP5 Computer Manipulated Photography (B) - High Distinction
SP5 Australian Art, Craft and Design - Pass 1

A successful year in study and a tragic year at home but now I am looking forward to a new brighter, bigger and better year as I lunge into my final year of my Bachelor of Visual Art (Specialisation).
As a final act of creativity for the year I have been painting a large series of miniature canvas', among other things, for close friends and family Christmas presents. Photos of which I won't upload to the Paintings or Additional Art pages until after Christmas to keep the surprise.

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and safe holidays!!

Final Assessment

Second year of my Bachelor of Visual Art (Specialisation) is complete! Just had my final assessment today for Painting: Advanced Imagery V.A.
Now I'm left waiting for all my results before worrying too much about next year (which I have already enrolled in). Specializing in PHOTOGRAPHY for my final year :D and due to epic course changes I'm forced into having to do a negotiated study in photography for the extra units. Which means I have to make up my own photography course, research requirements and assessment for a superior to agree with and assess. Wish me luck as I try doing that. I'm thinking I'm going to try and get away with a study of photography in the work field, i.e. work experience! Which will be useful in many ways.

I Defy

For my final assessment in Computer Manipulated Photography (B) I had to get my photos made into a photo book which I had to design and control all aspects of. This is my hard cover, 20 page photo book, A5 landscape which I created and order through Albumworks (www.albumworks.com.au).
I found that going through Albumworks to have my book made was quick and easy. They have a free program to download in order to create the book layout as well as quite reasonable prices with brilliant quality, quick delivery and efficient costumer services.

More photographs of my photo book 'I Defy' will be uploaded on the Additional Art page.

The Twin I Never Had

I have always been intrigued by identical twins or just twins/triplets/etc in general. Having a sibling the same age and growing up together from day one. I like to imagine the special relationship I may have had if I were to have had a twin sister. Would we be mischievous? Most certainly. Would we have stayed up late talking with each other about our issues? I'd like to think so. Would we dress the same? Just for the fun of it.
Well now I can bring to life the twin sister I never had. The memories we would have shared and games we would have played. Just for the fun of it.

The 5th Gawler Art Award

The official opening for the 5th Gawler Art Award was held at The Gawler Community Gallery this afternoon with an eager crowd of locals and reports listening to the lucky winners of the section awards. Well done to all the artist that won an award. There is still one award to be given out and that is the People's Choice for visitors of the gallery to vote for.
Below is a photo of me standing next to my photograph 'Fishy Physics' hanging just inside the door of the downstairs gallery room.
I would like encourage everyone to go and check out the exhibition which will be showing until October 10th. There are some brilliant art pieces there and certainly do not envy the judges who selected the winners of each award.

XVI / Practice in Progress Space Opening Night

The Practice in Progress Space supported by the SASA Gallery on the UniSA City West Campus had the opening night on Wednesday 28th of July during the XVI exhibition. It was a fantastic turn out and at times was so crowded no one could move, but the most important thing was that everyone enjoyed it. There was a marvelous range of techniques and styles displayed by the 16 artists, including myself, with paintings, drawings, photographs, sculptures, bookmaking, stop motion animation and installation.

Here are a couple photographs from the evening before it got too crowded.

XVI Exhibition

A multi disciplinary exhibition of artworks by 16 Second Year Bachelor of Visual Arts (Specialisation) students.

Forward,
Sixteen is the first exhibition of the Practice in Progress - 120 Artists in 12 Weeks project that has been supported by the SASA Gallery and organised with the generous help from Mary Knights. Throughout the 12 weeks, 120 artists from the Visual Art (Specialisation) course will come together to exhibit their own work that has been developed whilst studying at the University of South Australia. Each individual group has been designated a number of days to display their work in an attempt to allow the students to experience the ins and outs of organising and preparing for an exhibition. The final goal is to hopefully propel the students into their own professional practice and allow them to see what it takes to be a professional artist.
In the XVI exhibition I have showing my 'Far From Gravity' series of computer manipulated photography which I developed in my Computer Manipulated Photography (A) class in Study Period 2 this year.
The images portray the effortless defiance of gravity bringing dreams to life. I have always dreamed of floating or flying and I wanted to share the ideal reality I had dreamed of through these photographs.

C.C. - Code Geass Cosplay

This is my very first attempt at creating a costume from scratch. It is the character C.C. in a once off outfit from season one of Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion. I made this costume specially for AVCon '10 and will be showing it off at the cosplay marshalling. This is a new and exciting (as well as nerve racking) experience for me. It's going to be great :D
I have to thank cosplaydna who supplied me the wig via ebay as well as my best friend Steph who bought me the fabric!

Far From Gravity

These 'floating' photographs were inspired by some photography I saw by Lucia Holm. I created a matching set for a Computer Manipulated Photography (A) assignment.

2010 March-May Paintings

These are my recent experimentations with painting, just a small selection of the many I have produced in the last three months. My experimentations have been inspired by artist such as Miriam Cabessa, James Dodd, Kara Walker and Miertje Skidmore just to name a few.
